Position Information:

Job Description:

We are seeking a meticulous and organised Data Controller to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management, security, and integrity of our data systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and optimising data processes. The Data Controller will work closely with various teams to ensure that data is accurately collected, stored, and utilised efficiently

Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Management & Integrity:

  • Oversee the collection, storage, and dissemination of data across the organisation from 3rd party service providers.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency in line with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Implement and maintain data control processes, ensuring alignment with both internal and external compliance requirements.

Data Governance:

  • Establish and maintain data governance frameworks, including data quality standards and data classification protocols.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement data storage, backup, and recovery solutions.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of data, including retention, archiving, and deletion procedures.

Collaboration & Reporting:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure data flows smoothly between departments
  • Provide regular reports on data performance and compliance to senior management.
  • Assist in the training and support of teams on best practices related to data management and governance.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously assess and improve data management processes to enhance efficiency and streamline operations.
  • Recommend and implement technologies, tools, and solutions that optimise data control and management.

Communication

  • Assist in the facilitation of team meetings.
  • Deliver informative, well-organised presentations.
  • Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.

Teamwork

  • Facilitate effective team interaction.
  • Acknowledge and appreciates each team member’s contributions.

Client Management

  • Communicate effectively with internal clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions with company project management.
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase internal client satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
  • Manage internal client expectations effectively.

Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Experience:

  • Proven experience (typically 2+ years) in a data management or data control role, preferably in an IT-focused organization.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection regulations and compliance frameworks
  • Experience with data management software and tools (e.g. Excel with advanced knowledge in pivots and segregating large volumes of data)

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of data governance best practices
  • Experience with data security protocols, such as encryption and access control

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to handle sensitive data and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
